Kharava Luang, the great reverence is a religious ritual of respect organizing by lay people in a temple. The text mentions before the monks will enter the rain-residence, the lay people conduct this ceremony. They worship the Triple Gem with inner and outer offerings. Inner offerings comprise of pañca khandha (the five groups of existence), their lives and practice, and outer offerings comprise of flowers, candles, incenses, nut and betel placing in front of the Triple Gem. Then they undertake to reverence for the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha. Maha Sangkat Luang, the great era tells about the time line of the Teachings of Gotama Buddha. After 500 years of Buddhist Era, there would not have any bhikkhinis (female monks), after 1,000 years no noble ones, after 2,000 years no philosopers, after 3,000 years no Buddhist monks, after 4,000 years no Uposatha days, and after 5,000 years only a small piece of a yellow robe recognised as a symbal of Buddhism. After the Teachings of Gotama Buddha has fully finished, Ariya Metteyya will descend from Tusita heaven and be born in the world, attain enlightenment and become the Buddha in the future.
