Vinaya text. The text tells in brief about the practical method of Pasivāsa, Mānatta, and Abbhāna of monks. Parivāsa (probation) means to be under interdiction for a monk who broke any of Sanghadisesa and concealed the offence. He has to be practiced the probation for a number of days as he concealed the offence as self-punishment. Mānatta 'penance' is Buddhist ritual that the Sangha performs to a monk who has committed the offence of Sanghadisesa to be a monk who can be counted among the Sangha. The recitation of this proclamation is called Sūtmānat. Abbhāna means retraction means receiving the monk who has committed the Sanghadisesa and was punished in seclusion and then returns to be innocent. The recitation of this proclamation is called Sūtabbhān. Colophons: (1) Folio 37 on the verso side: The writing of this manuscript was accomplished in the noon drum (between 9.00 - 10.30 o’clock). May I, the scribe gain much merit. In Chunlasakkarat (corresponding with CS) 1262, a kot chai year, on the fourth day of the waning moon of the twelfth lunar month, the first day of the week (Sunday), a poek chai day. The writing of this manuscript was finished at the noon drum (between 10.30-12.00 o’clock). Sathu Phio from Ban Sanok village had the most ardent religious faith and collected blank palm leaves to make this manuscript entitled Vinai Kamma, in order to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until he enters Nibbāna. May the benefits of this merit support my late father named Thit (ex-monk) Sima, who already died to the other world. Even if he has been stuck in a place of suffering, please let he move to a good place. The greatest bliss certainly. (2) Folio 38 on the recto side: In Buddhist Era (BE) 2489, a hwai set year, on the fourth day of the waxing moon of the ninth lunar month. Thit (ex-monk) Khamphan or Phia Pasumsaiya and his wife named Nang Phia Paen, together with their children and grandchildren had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Maha Sangkat, in order to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May our wishes and desires become true . Sudinnaṃ vatta me dānaṃ āsavak gayāvahaṃ nibbāna saṅkhātaṃ hotu anāgate kale (May the alms that I have already given be a condition for me to obtain the extinction of defilements and reach Nibbāna in the future).
