The text tells about bad karmas that are evil deeds which are followed with greed, hatred, and delusion. Moreover, the content also tells about the tenfold unwholesome causes of action. Among the ten, three are bodily, four are verbal, and three are mental. Threefold bodily action includes killing, stealing, and unlawful sexual intercourse. Fourfold verbal action includes lying, slanding, rude speech, and foolish babble. Three mental actions include covetousness, ill-will, and evil views. Colophon: (1) Folio 40 on the verso side: My gift of the writing of alphabets is pure, I rejoice with. My name is Thit Òn from Ban Thaviang village in Xiang Khouang [province], the scribe. May all my wishes come true. Amen! The great king is the hirer. Chunlasangkat 2 thousand 2 hundred and 59 (corresponding with CS 1259), a moeng hao year, the third day of the waxing moon of the fifth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday). The writing was accomplished at the time of the kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). The letters are not beautiful, the heads and tails are not smooth and might not fit with alphabets and Pali. Please consider carefully, dear monks and novices! Not only unbecoming, it might be more or less, please add on [it]. It is difficult. Set your mind in good mood and preach it. (2) Folio 41 on the recto and verso sides: Chunlasangkat 1259, a moeng hao year, the fifth day of the waxing moon of the fifth lunar month, the first day of the week (Sunday), and a kat pao day. The writing was accomplished at the time of the kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Somdet phachao bòrommachakkaphatti sisuriyavong (the royal king) who freely lived Sisattanakhanahut uttama rattanaburirom phommachakkaphatti si lanxang hom khao is the initiator along with his wife, sons, grandchildren and relatives had pleasure in mind, and faith in the Teachings of the Buddha, high kindness and the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript of the texts to be studied, entitled Satthammopanyama in order to dedicate his son named Chantharangsi who died. When he was close to die, his mind might set in a bad mood and went to the four unhappy planes and later born as a hungry ghost or a ghost stuck in somewhere. May the results of this merit to support him and move him to a good place. Even if he is already in a good place, may he have more divine properties than ever by hundred times and thousand times. May this come true. Amen, amen! May the alms that I have already given be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna constantly and certainly, the greatest bliss.
