The Lao traditional proverbs which are the root adopted from the Buddhist teachings concerning to actions in proper ways. They are short phrases with meaningful, rhymed, impressive and deep. For examples, “Vaipak siasin vaitin tok tonmai” (Better the foot slip than tongue), mean saying or doing something carelessly will cause damage. Colophon: Folio 3 on the verso side: Chunlasangkatrasa (CS) 1291, the first day of the waxing moon of the fourth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a kat hao day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng laeng (between 13.30– 15.00 o’clock). Thit (ex-monk) Tha and Sao Hüan from Ban Pongvan village had the most ardent religious faith, along with their children and relatives, jointly to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Nyòt khamsòn, to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May our wishes and desires come true. May we both enter the crystal city which is Nibbāna, may this not be ignored. May the alms that I have already given be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna which is the greatest bliss certainly. I am Thit (ex-monk) Tha is the scribe. Please do not blame me because I just learn the inscribe of [the manuscript].
