The ‘Immoderate Corporal Punishment’ series contains documentation from the period 1936 to 1941, in which the Penal Code of 1890, Article 292, Chapter IV, was used to judge the offences of ‘subtraction, concealment and abandonment of minors’, including situations that exposed them to mortal danger. Although the 1940 Penal Code lists the practice of mistreating ill-treatment of minors in Article 136, Chapter III, all the cases found in the collection safeguarded by the Centro de Memória da Amazônia refer to the previous Penal Code. refer to the previous Penal Code of 1890.

Embora o Código Penal de 1940 relacione a prática de maus tratos de menores no Artigo 136, Capítulo III, todos os processos encontrados no acervo salvaguardado pelo Centro de Memória da Amazônia se referem ao Código Penal anterior, de 1890.
