The volume contains cases brought before the Assistant Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 23 March and 8 September 1863. It contains an index that lists the cases by name of the defendant and provides the page number, the offence and how it was dealt with. For each case, information is provided on the date, the names of the plaintiff and the defendant, and the offence. Information is sometimes included on the oath of the constable, the plaintiff, the defendant, or of witnesses. Sentences given are also recorded. The volume is bound in blue cloth boards. There is extensive water damage, and damage from iron gall. Some of the pages are torn, and have been mended with tape. There are some traces of mould.
