The volume contains cases brought before the Assistant Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 1 December 1863 and 20 February 1864. An index lists the cases by name of the defendant, and provides the page number and the offence. In the recording of cases, information is provided on the date, the names of the plaintiff and the defendant, and the offence. The reporting of cases also includes information on oaths taken by the constable, the plaintiff, the defendant, or of witnesses. Information is also provided on sentencing. The volume is bound in blue cloth boards. The binding is loose. There is extensive water damage, and extensive damage from iron gall. The paper is brittle. Some pages are torn, and have been mended with tape.
