The volume contains cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 2 October 1863 and 25 February 1865. It contains an index that lists the case by name of the defendant, and provides the offence and the page number in the volume. In the reporting of cases, information is provided on the date, the names of the plaintiff and the defendant, and the offence. It also includes reference to the oath of the constable, the plaintiff, the defendant, or of witnesses. Information is also provided on sentencing. The broken spine and damaged binding mean that several pages are loose. There is extensive water damage, and some traces of damage from iron gall. The paper is brittle, and some of the edges of paper are breaking away. Some pages are torn.
