The Bodhisatta was born as Suvanapòmkham. Once upon a time, in Champa city, there was a poor woman named Sumakkhamitta who was a beggar. When she had rice from begging, she divided the rice to worship a stupa and a Buddha statue and prayed for a smart son. Indra knew that she had a strong faith so he sent Matari Devaputta to in her womb. One night, she dreamed that “a magical priest brought her a beautiful red and fragrant lotus flower. So she took it close to her chest. Later, she became pregnant and gave birth to a child named Suvanapòmkham. When he grew up, he regularly gave alms. And when Suvanapòmkham met Prince Pathumma, the daughter of the king of Champa , both of them fell in love with each other. The king, knowing the virtues of the Bodhisatta, allowed Princess Pathumma to marry Suvanapòmkham and gave him the throne to rule the city of Champa.
