Once upon a time, there was a drought in Vannasandan city. There was also a poorest woman named Arani. She was begging in the city, but no one gave her anything. So, she decided to go into the forest to find fruit for a living. When she entered the forest, she met a monkey. When the monkey saw her, he fell in love with her, so he went to get fruit and corn for her to eat every day until she fell in love with the monkey. They two then lived together. Later, a giant named Viruttayak came to see Arani and fell in love with her and wanted her to be his wife. So the giant went to kill the monkey who was looking for fruit in the forest, and created himself of a young man to Arani. When Arani saw him, she fell in love with him. The giant took Arani as his wife. Later, Vimala Hermit told her the truth that Virutha was a giant, not human. She asked the hermit for help. The hermit took her to his place and looked after her. Later she gave birth to a son. But the baby had his physical appearance like a monkey. The hermit then poured the baby with his holy water. So, the baby became a human. The hermit gave him a name of Hunlamanlok.
