On one occasion, while residing at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha gave a sermon on the merit derived from making the manuscripts of the Tipitaka (the three baskets) to Sariputta Thera who came to the presence of the Buddha and asked the Buddha about this. The Buddha said that any women or men who have the ardent religious faith made the manuscripts of the Buddha’s teachings in order to support the Teachings of the Buddha will gain great merit incalculably. Their wishes will come true in any aspects. After death, they will be reborn in the heaven as king of the gods (Indra). Thereafter, they will reborn again in the human wolrd as emperors for many existences. Colophons: (1) Folio 8 on the recto and verso side: Auspecious time, auspicious blessing. Maha Cunlasakkarat (CS) 1282, a kot san year, the eleventh lunar month, a poek san day, the first day of the week (Sunday). [The writing was accomplished] at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30-9.00 o'clock). Chao (Princess) Khamkham from the royal palace had the ardent religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha along with her relatives to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Sòng Pitaka, in order to dedicate this merit to my late husband named Sourivong who already died to the other world. May the results of this merit support and move him to a happiness place, may this merit be a golden and magical castle for him immediately. Amen, amen! I rejoice. (2) Folio 9 on the recto side: Auspecious time, auspicious blessing.
