The Dhammapada story of Venerable Samgharakkhita. Venerable Samgharakkhita Bhagineyya was the nephew of Venerable Samgharakkhita. At one time, after the end of the Buddhist Lent, he went to his uncle to pay respect to him and offered the robe to the Venerable. But, the uncle declined to accept the robe, saying that he had enough. The young bhikkhu felt disheartened. From that point, his mind wandered and a train of thoughts followed. At that time he was fanning the Thera, he absentmindedly struck the head of the thera with the fan. When he was conscious, he became extremely frightened and embarrassed. So he fled. Young bhikkhus and novices of the monastery chased him and finally took him to the presence of the Buddha. When told about the whole episode, the Buddha said that the mind has the ability to think of an object even though it might be far away, and that one should strive hard for liberation from the bondage of passion, ill will and ignorance. Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Sangkat 173 (corresponding with CS 1173), a huang mot year, on the eighth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh lunar month. His majesty the king of Sisattanakharahutta Nusuvannaphumintha kingdom had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thambot (Dhammapada) for the prosperity of the Teachings of the Buddha. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
