Patacara Theri, the bhikkhuni who excelled in discipline in the Buddha’s time. Before becoming a female monk and attaining enlightenment, her life was full of hardships and obstacles. Patacara was the daughter of a rich man in Savatthi. She had a beautiful figure but fell in love with a servant so she ran away from home to live with him. When she got pregnant, she wanted to go back to her parents' house to give birth. Later, a terrible incident happened to her. That is said that she gave birth in the middle of the road in distress, her husband was bitten by a snake, lost her two children and lost consciousness when she heard the news of her parents' death and became a mad woman. The clothes she was wearing fell off her body. She cried until she reached the Jetevana monastery. When she listened to the sermon from the Buddha, she became conscious and attained Sotapati. After that, she asked to be ordained as a bhikkhuni in the Teachings of the Buddha. Later she attained arahantship. She was praised by the Buddha as the best in the discipline of Bhikkhuni.
