After his ordaination as a monk, Venerable Maha Kappina intentionally practiced Vipassana meditation and shortly attained arahantship. At the beginning, he did not dare to teach others because he had not yet received the permission of the Buddha. But later after receiving the permission of the Buddha, he taught all his followers until thay all attained enlightenment. The Lord Buddha praised his ability in this matter and appointed him to the position of being superior to all bhikkhus in giving advice to other bhikkhus.
