Casamentos de Escravos, 1756-1809

The volume records marriages of enslaved people recorded in the Church of Santo Antônio de Sá, Itaboraí-RJ. Entries date from 02 Feb 1756 to 23 Jun 1809. There are no opening or closing charters. Frequently, the same people signed multiple entries in a row, who appear to have been the witnesses to the marriage, but the names do not correspond to the owners of the enslaved people united in matrimony. Entries were signed by the following clergy: Vicar José Pereira (?), Coadjutor Caetano da Costa (...), Coadjutor Ignacio José de Oliveira, Vicar Manoel (M.el) José de Sá, and Francisco (?) de Azevedo. Physical characteristics: The volume consists of 197 folios that have come loose from their original binding and show signs of ink damage. It does not have a cover. Owner(s) of original material: Arquivo da Cúria Metropolitana de Niterói.
