Collection of Bilingual Texts V

Transliterated title: Kandoolu Kitaaboolu V.

Contains a bilingual Arabic-Mandinka Ajami collection of numerous documents, including a poem, personal correspondences, personal notes and contacts, divination techniques, and a text discussing the holiday at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The owner and his family are Mandinka followers of the Muridiyya Sufi order. The personal correspondences in the collection reflect the owner’s ties to the Wolof speaking Murid community in northern Senegal. Dual literacy in Arabic and Ajami is needed to fully understand the contents of these materials.

Custodial history: The materials are part of the owner's private collection that he has developed throughout his life.

Extent and format of original material: 54 pages.

Physical characteristics: Unbound manuscripts. Some manuscripts are damaged by water. Due to ink stains and water damage, some of the text may be difficult to read.
