Pha Khamchan Virachitta Maha Thela (1920-2007), at the age of 70, Abbot of Vat Saen Sukharam sits at the open space which is called Abbhokasa in Pali, a kind of Dhudangha practice (the thirteen practices of ascetic monk) during a practice of Parivassakam (annual ritual retreat of purification) at Vat Pa Phon Phao. There is a handwritten message of Pha Khamchan on the verso of this photograph "On the day of a practice of Abbhokasa (sitting at the open space) in the forest at Vat Pa Phon Phao. November 23, 1990, at the age of 70 and 2 months". Chromogenic print.
