Pha Khamchan Virachitta Maha Thela (1920-2007), at the age of 70, Abbot of Vat Saen Sukharam sits under the tree which is called Ruggamula in Pali, a kind of Dhudangha practice (the thirteen practices of ascetic monk) during a practice of Parivassakam (annual ritual retreat of purification) at Vat Pa Phon Phao. There is a handwritten message of Pha Khamchan on the verso of this photograph "After the end of Parivassakam, sitting under the tree in the forest at Vat Pa Phon Phao. November 23, 1990".
