Buddhist ceremony [1996]

Phithi Theraphisek (a ceremony of sprinkle water) for Pha Khamchan Virachitta Maha Thela, Abbot of Vat Saen Sukharam, President of the Provicial Buddhist Fellowship Organization of Luang Prabang on his 76th Birthday Celebration at the Sim of Vat Saen Sukharam on October 22, 1996. This photograph represents lay people sitting and holding cottoned flags, candles and incenses along the two edges of the way to show respect to Pha Khamchan and senior monks in a procession of Pha Khamchan to the Sim after Pha Khamchan took a bath. The monk who talks to a foreigner in front of the Sim is Pha Ajan Somsay Kittiyano (Khouba Ki) of Vat Khunta, Vientiane. Chromogenic print.
