The 'Libre Pensamiento' is the official newspaper of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons in Peru. With a characteristic humour, the group of liberals responsible for its writing seeks to convey the principles of its doctrine, to question conservative Peruvian customs and laws, and to highlight the political achievements of the principal nations worldwide that share its political orientation. Throughout its various issues, the newspaper debates fundamental questions of liberal doctrine: civil marriage, freedom of belief, enthusiasm for science, and the separation of Church and State. Its content presents a critique of the clergy and its administrative and ideological contradictions, though not of God nor of religion itself; rather, the writers demonstrate great respect for freedom of faith and defend popular religious expressions, even while satirising some of them. The correspondence section, moreover, reveals extensive connections with liberal politicians and thinkers across the Americas and Europe. The newspaper also includes a literary section with prose and verse, as well as a chronicle section compiling scandals or notable events in Lima’s social life. "El Libre Pensamiento" es el periódico oficial de la Gran Logia de los Masones en el Perú. Con un humor característico, el grupo de liberales encargados de su redacción busca transmitir los principios de su doctrina, cuestionar las costumbres y leyes conservadoras peruanas y exponer los logros políticos de las principales naciones en todo el mundo que comparten su orientación política. A lo largo de sus varios números, el periódico debate cuestiones fundamentales de la doctrina liberal: el matrimonio civil, la libertad de credo, el entusiasmo por la ciencia y la división de Estado e Iglesia. Su contenido muestra una crítica al clero y sus contradicciones a nivel administrativo e ideológico, más no a Dios ni a la religión en sí; más bien, los redactores exhiben un gran respeto por la libertad de fe y defienden las expresiones religiosas populares, aunque satirice alguna de ellas. La sección de correspondencia, además, muestra una amplia conexión con políticos y pensadores liberales de toda América y Europa. El periódico incluye una sección literaria con textos en verso y prosa y una sección de crónica en la que se compilan escándalos o sucesos llamativos en la vida social limeña. Los números del periódico están encuadernados en una secuencia incorrecta.
