On one occasion, the Buddha was present at Gijjakuta in Rajagaha. There was a deity named Manimekhala who was greater than all the deities who guarded rivers and ponds in Jambudipa. When the first watch had passed, the deity approached the Buddha and asked a question, "My Buddha, I am a deity who guards oceans and revirs in this Jambudipa. The people and animals that fell into the water, I took the people and animals out of the water to save them from death. Some of those people are good and some are virtuous and some are sinful. Did I do this right or wrong? Then the Buddha gave a sermon to the deity who listened in detail and clearly. Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2485, a tao sanga year, on the first day of the waxing moon of the ninth lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). The initiator, Ratsapannya sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Lokavithū (Lokavidū: knower of the worlds) to dedicate to Xiang Vandi who died to the other world. May the results of this merit support him and move him to a good place better than ever, definitely and to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May I obtain arahantship. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana.
