Sòng namsang means the merit derived from the making of wells. On one occasion, while the Buddha was dwelling at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi, Venerable Moggalana Thera asked the Buddha about the merit derived from the making of ponds and wells. The Buddha preached a sermon. Any person, who has dug ponds and wells for other people, will gain much merit. When being born in the human world, the person will be respected by other people and will be wise. After the human world, the person will be born in the heaven with heavenly treasures.
