On one occasion the Buddha was present at the Jetavana monastery together with his disciples of 500 monks. At the time, King Pasenadi ruled the city of Savatthi. The king governed the people with the ten virtues of a ruler. One day, the king thought of the Triple Gem, so he went to the precence of Buddha and asked him, "Oh, Blessed One, the people who did alms-giving, the observance of the precepts, and meditation, what are the results they will receive? The Buddha then said, Great King, the person who gave food as alms, he is called the giver of strength, the person who gave clothes as alms; he is called the giver of beauty, and etc.
