Thanakhan or Dānaka means "Alms-giving" is the third section of the 13 sections of Vessantara Jataka. The text mentions about the great alms-giving of Prince Vessantara. Before leaving his kingdom to Mount Vamka, Prince Vessantara distributed many things as gifts which called "Satta jataka maha dana" (seven kinds of alms-gifts) including elephants, horses, carts, servants, dairy cows, male and female slaves, 700 each. Then Prince Vessantara, his wife Maddī and his two children, Jali and Kanha left the kingdom directing to Mount Vamka. Colophon: Folio 41 on the recto side: Chunlasangkatrasa (CS) 1208, a hwai sanga year, the fifth day of the waning moon of the twelfth lunar month. The royal king had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Sap Maha Vessantara to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna. May all my wishes and desires come true. May I be reborn in the heaven of Nima[narati].
