Dānakhanda the third episode of the Vessantara Jataka with the whole text written in Pali. Before Vessantara left Sivi kingdom, he donated “sattasadaka mahadāna” (donation of 7 things, 700 each). Then, he left the kingdom with Queen Maddi, son, Jali and daughter Kanha directing to the Himavan forest. Along the way, a group of paupers came and asked for the royal carriage and horse. He gave them. Finally both of them carried their son and daughter and continued their way by foo to the Himavan forest. Colophon: (1) Folio 18 on the recto side: Sangkat 120009 (corresponding with CS 1209), a moeng mot year, the full moon day of the ninth lunar month, the fifth day of the week (Thursday), a ka sai year, the writing was accomplished at the time of the thae kai thiang (between 9.00–10.30 o’clock). Maha Somdet Akkhavòra rasakhru luang, abbot of Vat Saiyasilaramma sponsored the making of this manuscript [entitled] Pali maha vessantara, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna.
