Kinnali or kinnari (a half-man and half bird creature). Once King Phommathat of Varanasi travelled lonely into the Himalaya forest for hunting, he saw a kinnali who was so beautiful staying with her husband, kinnala. He was suddenly fallen in love with her and wanted her to become his own wife. Thus, he shot her husband by his archer and persuaded her to become his wife. Kinnali rejected his offer. Moreover, she condemned at him as a bad man. She stayed alongside her husband and cried. When the king went away, Indra came and poured the holy water on kinnala, then he revived. Colophon: Folio 31 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2514, a huang khai year, the first day of the waning moon of the ninth lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished] at 3 p.m. Sathu (Monk) Bunthan sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Kinnali to dedicate to Ai Thi who passed away. May the results of this merit support him to reach happiness through this life and the future lives. I made this tale to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May my wishes and desires come true. May this gift of mine be for Nibbāna which is the greatest bliss constantly and certainly in the future. Amen, amen! I rejoice.
