Sòng Maha Sat means the merit gained by listening to the preaching of the great existence or the Vessantara Jataka. The Buddha preached a sermon about the merit of the Vessantara Jataka to his disciples and Sakya princes. The Buddha said that those who wish to meet Ariya Metteyya Buddha are advised to listen to the preaching of Vessantara Jataka and to accomplish the listening within one day. Their wish will come true. Due to the results of the listening to the preaching of Vessantara Jataka, after death, they will be reborn in heavens, not going to hells, reborn in the period of the coming Buddha, Ariya Mettaya, and attain enlightenment and enter Nirvana. Colophon: Folio 13 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat 0002910 (corresponding with CS 1291), a hwai sanga year, the full moon day of the eighth lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the midday. Saen Mai Ngao and Sao Lek are the principal initiators, together with their children and relatives had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Salòng vessantara, to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May our wishes and desires come true. May we all reach the three states of happiness and Nibbāna is the ultimate goal. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna which is the greatest bliss.
