Atitavamsa tells the family of Buddhas in the past. After having attained enlightenment, the Buddha considered persons who were worthy to listen to his Dhamma preaching. At the time, the Buddha thought of Ascetic Alara Kalama and Ascetic Udaka Ramaputta whom once he learned from. However, a Brahma told the Buddha that both teachers had already passed away. Then the Buddha thought of pancavaggiya (the five ascetics) who used to service him during his practice. The Buddha knew that the pancavaggiya were in Isipatana Maruegadayavana near Pharanisi which is 18 yojana far. The Buddha also saw that the pancavaggiya would attain a stage of the Dhamma. Thus the Buddha went to preach Dhammacakkapavatta Sutta to them. After the discourse, all of pancavaggiya became noble ones. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Sangkatrasa hundred 96 (CS 1196), a kap sanga year, the thirdteenth day of the waning moon of the ninth lunar month, the second day of the week (Monday), a huang mot day, the writing was accomplished in the midday. Chao Somdet Buppha Pannya sponsored the making of this manuscript [entitled] Kamphi phutthavong, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May wishes and desires come true. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna.
