Sòng Kamphi means the merit gained by making the wrapping cloth for the manuscripts. The text tells the merit gained by the process of making the wrapping cloth for the manuscripts such as those who cut the cloth will gain the merits for 6 thousand and 5 kappas (eons) and also will be reborn as Indra; those who made the thread or paved the mat for the making of the wrapping cloth for the manuscripts will gain the merits for eighty thousand and 4 thousand kappas and also will be reborn as the emperors in the Jambudipa. The Buddha preached a sermon about the merit of the wrapping cloth for the manuscripts to King Pasenadi who came to the presence of the Buddha and asked him about this at the Jetavana monastery of Savatthi. Colophon: Folio 6 on the verso side: Sathu (monk) Khamman from Vat Ban Nafai is the scribe. His patronage father and patronage mother who named Chan (ex-monk) Ma and his wife from Ban Khò village, together with their children are the sponsors of the making of this manuscript [entitled] Sòng pha khamphi, to support the Teachings of the Buddha certainly and definitely.
