The wards derived from permission to a son or husband to be ordained as a novice or monk in in Buddhism. On one occasion, while dwelling at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha gave a sermon on the rewards of the ordination to Ananda Thera. The one who has the religious faith lets a servant to be ordained as a novice will gain the benefits for four eons and eight eons for a monk. To let a son to be ordained as a novice will gain the benefits for eight eons and for 16 eons for a monk. To let the husband or wife to be ordained as a male novice or female novice will gain the benefits for 16 eons and 32 eons for a bhikkhu or bhikkhuni. To let one to be ordained as a monk will gain the benefits for 64 eons. The one who let sons, grandsons, husbands or wives to be ordained as a bhikkhu, bhikkhuni, samanera, samaneri is regarded as a relative of the Teachings of the Buddha. The Buddha also told the story of a woman who did not go to hell because of the support by the results from her son’s ordaination as a novice.
