The Buddha preached the story of Buddhasena to his disciples at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi. In the past, there were 500 rich families in Inthapattha kingdom. At the time, there was a rich man named Dhananjaya who was head of the rich men. But the rich man did not have any children, so he sacrificed a tree in his garden to ask for a child. An angel who lived on the tree told the rich man in a dream that he would have 12 daughters from now on. Dhananjaya, the rich man was very happy. Later, the rich man's wife gave birth to 12 daughters each year. With many children, the status of the rich man gradually declined. The gold and silver were gone. One day, the rich man plotted to take all his daughters and leave them in the forest to be eaten by giants. A giant mother came to see all 12 of them and fell in love and pity. So, they took all 12 of them and put them in the palace, and commanded all giants to be transformed into men. Fearing that all 12 of them would be disgusted and paranoid, the giantess changed herself into Samutthara, their mother. Colophon: Folio 25 on the verso side: Phutthasangkatrasa (BE) 2505, the tenth day of the waning moon of the first lunar month, a tao nyi year, the writing was accomplished. Sathu Phò Phia Phatthaman from Vat Mai, along with his patronage named Thit (ex-monk) Nya from Chan Tai village, they both sponsored the making of this manuscript [entitled] Phutthasen, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May both of us reach the three states of happiness with Nibbāna is our ultimate goal. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna in the future. I am Thit Nya who is the scribe, may I become a Buddha in the future. Ahaṃ sammā sambuddho hotu anāgate kāle (May I become a Buddha in the future).
