Ash-Shams (The Sun): Established by Assir Gorayeb on May 8, 1915 in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires, Ash-Shams was the mouthpiece of the Arabic literary renaissance in the Americas. Following World War I, Ghorayeb moved it to his hometown of Damour before moving it again to Beirut. Upon his death, his son Kamal took over its reins and turned it into a newspaper published as Sawt Al-Wataniyyin Al-Ahrar (The Voice of National Liberals).
