This collection consists of Portuguese manuscript documents from the Church of São João Batista de Itaboraí in Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and belonging to the Archdiocese of Niterói. The volumes were produced during the colonial, Imperial, and Republican periods and include baptismal records (1680-1895), marriage records (1683-1894), and burial records (1743-1987) of free, freed (forro/liberto), and enslaved people. Custodial history: The volumes were produced by the Parish (Freguesia) of São João Batista de Itaboraí. In accordance with local custom and Canonical Law, all documentation of a permanent nature produced by the Parish is transferred to the Archive of the Archdiocese of Niterói after 70 years.
