Correspondence, Chief of Police and Provincial Presidency, 1845

The book contains correspondence exchanged between the Chief of Police and President of the Province (Presidente da Província) Frederico Carneiro de Campos, in 1845. Topics covered in the letters include: arrest of Antonio Joaquim, a black man under suspect of being a runaway slave; arrest of two black males and one black female found wandering after curfew; bonus granted to the amanuensis of the Police Secretary; arrest of São Bento Convent's slave Clemente, and freed black Teresa , for public inebriation after curfew; escape of prisoners from police escort while performing cleaning services; among others.
