Description of a trip up to Tenejapa with pack mules and carriers made by Frans Blom where they stay in the town hall next to the courthouse and the jail. All business takes place in the colonnade. There the judge sits unconcerned listening to a case. An old couple very intoxicated squat before him, a young girl to the right. Image 3 - Page 2 To their left a young man. After listening to the proceedings for a while they get them translated into Spanish. Apparently the girl wants to marry the young 'buck' but her parents are not content with the exchange - they want more alcohol than they have already drunk and originally agreed to. The whole presided over by the judge who thinks for a while and then manages to extort a further purchase of alcohol from the old couple from his shop supposedly for the young man. Image 5 - Page 3 They return sometime later with the alcohol. The father hands the daughter over to the young man and he and his wife leave with the alcohol.
