Mahaphon (Mahabon) or Mahāvana the seventh episode of a total of 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jataka with 80 verses. Mahaphon means the great forest, the content tells Jujaka passed through the small forest as Cetaputta huntsman directed and arrived at the hermitage of Acuta hermit. Jujaka told the foresee ascetic a lie that he was the emissary from Sivi city then the ascetic trusted him easily and welcomed him with fruits and gave him a stay overnight at his pavilion. The next morning, the hermit pointed the way to Mount Vamka for Jujaka, which passed through rain forests, mountains, rivers and ponds until to Mount Vamka. Colophon: Fascicle 17 on the recto side: Sisumangkhala Sangkatrasa (CS) 1292, a kot sanga year, on the third day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kong ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Thit Kaen and his wife Sao Thongdi sponsored the palm leaves. Rattanapannya is the scribe. They jointly sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Lam Phavet (Preaching on Vessantara) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May the results of this merit be a condition for Nirvana and to cut the five obstacles off, and to reach Nirvana as our wishes. May I obtain Arahantship. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly.
