Mahaphon (Mahāvana) the seventh episode of a total of 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jataka with 80 verses. Mahaphon means the great forest, the content tells Jujaka passed through the small forest as Cetaputta huntsman directed and arrived at the hermitage of Acuta hermit. Jujaka told the foresee ascetic a lie that he was the emissary from Sivi city then the ascetic trusted him easily and welcomed him with fruits and gave him a stay overnight at his pavilion. The next morning, the hermit pointed the way to Mount Vamka for Jujaka, which passed through rain forests, mountains, rivers and ponds until to Mount Vamka. Colophon: Folio 15 on the recto side: Chunlasangkatrasa (CS) 1292, a hwai sanga year, on the sixth day of the waxing moon of the ninth lunar month, the fifth day of the week (Thursday), a hap sai day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). Chao Phanya Maha Somdet Sisavang Vong and his first wife Queen Khamfan jointly had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript-bundle entitled Vohān Vetsantara (Vessantara in phrase) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our desires and wishes with Nirvana as the ultimate goal, come true. May the results of this merit support Thu Nyai Thangthai (mean Queen Kham Ouan, King Sisavang Vong’s 1st wife), who already died to the other world. May she reach the states of happiness. If she has been in a good place, may this merit reach her. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana.
