On one occasion, the Buddha was staying at the Nigrodharam monastery in Kapilavatthu. At the time, Mahapajapati Gotami, the step-mother and maternal aunt of the Buddha, ordered a weaver man to make a robe with intention to offer it to the Buddha. When the robe was already for offering, she brought the robe to the monastery and offered it to the Buddha. But the Buddha rejected and told her to offer the robe to the Sangha. As the offering to the Sangha will gain much merit than to offer it to the Buddha himself. Colophon: Folio 28 on the recto side: Chunlasangkatrasa (CS) 1236, a poek sanga year, on the second day of the waning moon of the tenth lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), a kap set day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Pho I Chaem and his wife sponsored the making of this manuscript-bundle entitled Lam Pitaka to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly.
