On one occasion, the Buddha was staying at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi. At the time, Venerable Maha Moggallana traveled to hell and saw the hell creatures suffering, starving and crying. When they saw theVenerable, they asked him where he comes from. The Venerable replied that I come from the world. The hell creatures then left their messages to the Venerable to tell their relatives to make merit and give alms and dedicate the results of the merit to them. When the Venerable returned the human world, he went to the presence of the Buddha and reported the Buddha about what he had seen. The Venerable also told the news to the relatives of those hell creatures.
