Anakhatavong or Anāgata Vamsa means the family of the Buddha in the future tells the previous existences of Gotama Buddha. Before becoming the Buddha, he was born as the Bodhisatta and had practiced the perfections for existences. Bodhisatta means the person who will become a Buddha in the future. The Buddha’s previous lives are counted since he was born as Hermit Sumedha. When the hermit saw the six rays and 32 great characteristics of Dipamkara Buddha, he was faithful in him and decided to offer his body by paving over a mud pond for the Buddha walked over. He set his wish to attain enlightenment and become a Buddha in the future. Dipamkara Buddha stood in front of the hermit and told that you all look at this hermit he will become a Buddha in this world in the period of asongkhai (countless) from now whose name is Gotama. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1238, a hwai chai year, on the first day of the waning moon of the ninth lunar month, a hwai sanga day, the first day of the week (Sunday), a huang mao day, the writing was accomplished at the time of tut sai (between 12.00–13.30 o’clock). The Royal King of the front golden palace had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript-bundle entitled Lam Anakatavongsa (Preaching on the Future Family of the Buddhas), to support the Teaching of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our wishes and desires come true. Nibbāna paccayo hotu no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly, the greatest bliss).
