Vidhurapandita Jataka, the Bodhisattva took his life as Vidhurapandita who was the minister of King Dhananjaya Korobbharaja of Indapatta. One day, the four kings including Indra, the king of devas; Varuna, the king of the nagas; Venateyya, the king of the garudas; and King Dhananjaya met in a garden where each claimed to be the most virtuous. So, the dispute began. Therefore, they requested Vidhurapandita to settle the dispute. Vidhurapandita said that each was equal just like the four spokes of a wheel. Pleased, the four kings rewarded him with some precious gifts. Later, the Naga king told the Vidhurapandita’s wisdom to Vimala, his queen. When the queen heard that she craved to meet Vidhurapandita. So she tricked and pretended to be sick and then asked the king to give her the Vidhurapandita’s heart. Otherwise she will die. The Naga king therefore planed Punnaka, the yakkha to kill Vidhurapandita for his heart. If Punnaka could bring him the Vidhurapandita’s heart, he would allow his daughter named Irandati marry him. Punnaka knew the King Dhananjaya’s weakness, so, he challenged a game. When the king lost, he had to give Vidhurapandita to the giant. Punnaka tried to kill Vidhurapandita but not successful. So, he thought to bring him back but Vidhurapandita knew by his wisdom that the queen wanted to listen to his preaching. So, he asked the giant to bring him to the Naga kingdom. He preached the Dhamma to the Naga king and the queen. After listening, the queen was pleased. Vidhurapandita said that, “Wisdom is the hearth of a graduate”.
