The story of an ascetic. On one occasion, while dwelling at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha spoke to his disciples about a Brahmin. In Savatthi, there was an ascetic who was ordained in the other religion, but he claimed to be as virtuous as a monk in Buddhism. One day, the ascetic met the Buddha. The Buddha then gave a sermon to him. When the sermon was over, he attained Sotapatti phala. After that, he was ordained by the Buddha as a monk in Buddhism. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat one hundred and 68 (corresponding with CS 1168), a hwai nyi year, on the fourth day of the waning moon of the first lunar month, the second day of the week (Monday), a ka khai day. Phò Phanna and his wife had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thammapattha (Dhammapada) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years.
