Candakumara Jataka is the birth of the Bodhisattva when he was born as Canda Kumara, the son of King Ekaraja of Pubhavadi, performed the perfection of tolerance. King Ekaraja had the chief court Brahmin named Khandahala who liked to accept bribes, therefore unfairly judged the case. This was causing people to suffer all around. One day there was a complaint. Canda Kumara had to reverse the judgment to be fair. The people were praising and rejoicing. King Ekaraja therefore appointed Canda Kumara to be the judge instead. The Brahmin Kandahala became angry, tied up his malice and plotted that if King Ekaraja wanted to be born in heaven; he had to sacrifice with four of each including the royal sons, the royal daughters, elephants, horses, cows, and buffaloes. King Ekaraja believed by mistake therefore to arrange a sacrificial ceremony. Canda Kumara had to have patience to endure being abused by various means until Queen Candadevi, the consort of Canda Kumara, had to pray for all the help of the gods. With prayer, Indra came to help King Ekaraja to abolish the sacrifice. The Brahmin was punished until death by the people. King Ekaraja was driven out of the city. Canda Kumara reigned the kingdom until the end of his life. Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2490, the eleventh day of the waxing moon of the sixth lunar month. Chao (Prince) Suphanthavong from the village of Mai had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Chanthakumman to prolong the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this Dhamma gift be a condition for me to obtain the extinction of defilements and reach Nibbāna in the future.
