On one occasion, while the Buddha was residing at the Gijhakuta mount, the Buddha spoke to his disciples with reference to Venerable Devadatta who was striving to kill the Buddha. When King Bimbisala was killed by his own son, King Ajatasatru who had Venerable Devadatta behind the scene. Venerable Devadatta then said to King Ajatasatru that, “Now your wish has come true. You ascend the throne according to your will. Please help me to kill the Buddha. May you choose a group of skilled archers, and then send them to kill the Buddha who was staying at the Gijhakuta mount.
