After listening to the preaching of the Dhamma by Vidhurapandita, Varuna, the king of the nagas became faithful in the teachings and offered Vidhura his crystal necklace. Thereafter, the king narrated Vidhura’s wisdom to Vimala his consort that “Vidhura is wise with sweet words and the great preacher”. When Vimala heard that she craved to meet Vidhura. She feigned illness and asked the king, please bring me the heart of Vidhura, if you love me. Then the king of the nagas planed and asked Punnaka to kill Vidhura in order to take his heart for him. If Punnaka can bring him the heart of the Vidhurapandita, he would give his daughter, Princess Iraddati to Punnaka as his wife. Colophon: Folio 22 on the verso side: Chulasangkatrasa hundred 806 (corresponding with CS 1186), a kap san year, the seventh day of the waning moon of the third lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), a kot si day. Phünbat thangthai (the queen of the back palace) had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Thotsat, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May my wishes come true.
