The text tells in the Buddha’s time, there was a woman who had the most ardent religious faith in the Buddha’s teachings. She made regularly the alms-giving to the monks. One day while she was bringing the rice, water and food to the monastery in order to offer to the monks. A crow catching on a tree near by saw the woman bringing the food, with hungriness; it flew down and nibbled at the food. By the result of the bad deed, after death the crow went to hell. After the hell, it became a peta (hungry ghost). Colophon: Folio 21 on the recto and verso side: Chunlasangkatrasa 2474, a [kot] sanga year, the fourth day of the waning moon of the tenth lunar month, Wednesday, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). Pa (aunt) Peng from a house located above Vat Mai, she had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Thevathuttasut, in order to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May we all reach the crystal city which is Nibbāna. May the alms that we have already given be a condition to attain Nibbāna which is the greatest bliss certainly.
