Dhammapada on the story of Tissa Thera who was a son of the Buddha’s uncle. He was ordained as a monk at his old age. He was a conceited and obstinate monk. He did not pay due respect to the senior monks. When they admonished him, he threatened them, and complained to the Buddha. The Buddha advised him to apologize the senior monks, but the Venerable Tissa was obstinate. The Buddha related a story to show that Tissa had been just as obstinate in a previous life, when he was born as a hermit named Hermit Deva did not apologize to Hermit Narada who had forgave him. Later, the Venerable Tissa was compelled to seek pardon from the senior monks. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Sangkat 167 (corresponding with CS 1167), a hap pao year, the third day of the waxing moon of the second lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), and a tao chai day. The writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of the kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). The king of the front palace had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thammapattha (Dhammapada) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of life of the palm leaves.
