Information from Legend of Monasteries in Luang Prabang by Tiao Khamman Vongkotrattana, B.E. 2507 (A.D.1964), p. 15: "That That Luang stupa was built in C.S.1180 (A.D.1818) by King Mangthaturat for containing the relic of Buhha and gave a name Pha That Si Thamma Haysokarat but people call Pha That Luang (big stupa)...".
