Information from Legend of Monasteries in Luang Prabang by Tiao Khamman Vongkotrattana, B.E. 2507 (A.D.1964), p. 15: "Vat That Luang was built in C.S.1180 (A.D.1818) by King Mangthaturat". It is a temple of Tai Leu style. Its special styles are the roof and the nect between upper roof and lower roof. And in former time Vat That Luang was a place for the cremation ceremony of people of Luang Prabang and the highest dignitaries of the Royal Family.
