Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Khun Rattana (1854-1931),a Supreme Patriarch of Lao Kingdom before Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Dhammayana Maha Thela (Bunthan) of Vat Mai Suvannaphumaram.Biography: Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Khun Rattana was born at Vat That village, Luang Prabang in C.S. 1217 ( 1854) during the reign of King Chantheppaphakhun or King Luangchan. At the age of 13, he was ordained to be a novice at Vat Maha That Raxaborvolaviharn. At the age of 21, he was ordained to be a monk at Vat Maha That and he was nominated to be Huakhou, Rajakhou and Maharajakhou and the abbot of Vat Maha That. In C.S. 1272 ( 1910), he and Prince Bunkhong (the father of Chao Phetsaraj) had built a new Sim at Vat Maha That instead of the old one that was destroyed by wind in C.S. 1277 ( 1915). In the same year, he was nominated to be Somdet Pha Sangkhalat of Kingdom of Luang Prabang instead of Somdet Pha Sangkhalat Panh and moved to Vat Mai Suvannaphumaram during the reign of King Sisavangvong.
